Im going to canada in may to visit my boyfriend. I have known him for 5 years. and when i go there we are planning to get married. How do i go about that process ? Im an American. and is it best that i buy a roundtrip if after the two weeks im there we are driving down to see my family in the states?

well, you can get married and then he can apply to sponsor you for Canada.

Check with local city hall (google their website) in order to get the marriage registered, etc.
