which one is faster? application in canada or outside canada for spouse sponsorship? the spouse to be sponsored is in canada with a working permit. Which one should i go for? inland or outland???

It depends on the visa office that would process the outland application.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/international/05-fc-spouses.asp

For example, if applying through London you might be completely done in 3 months. But if you need to go through Nairobi, you can safely assume it will be a year minimum, probably more.

You can apply either inland or outland. If you have a strong case with no issues, you'll likely get approval in principle within 5-6 months from Vegreville and then finish up in another couple of months. But you could get unlucky and end up with no AIP, having your application transferred to a local CIC office and if you're especially "lucky", that is one of the busiest offices and it will take years before you're done with the app.

Usually outland is a lot faster. Where do you live and what is your country/countries of citizenship?

Outland is faster. However, if you're from Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, places like these, unfortunately, it could take a while.

If the to-be-sponsored person is already in Canada with a work permit I would assume they have to apply Inland.

No, they do not. They always have the option of applying outland - either with the visa office responsible for their country or with the visa office responsible for their country of residence if they had been admitted there for at least one year. So if for example you get a work permit for Canada valid for 3 years, you can choose to apply outland via Buffalo or the country of your nationality.

Or, if they so choose, they can apply inland.

We are currently in Alberta, Canada. We did the application for inland but i always wonder if i should change it with outland since I havent mailed my application yet. We still have until Nov 26, 2010 until my spouse's working permit ends. Would I have anough time?

By then you should have received approval in principle, but there is no guarantee of course. Outland should be faster in any case. How long has your spouse been in Canada and what is his country of citizenship?

Thanks a lot for the feedback. He has been under work permit for 3 yrs now with Filipino citizenship. I got my citizenship last yr. Can you tell me where I could get the right application form? I kept on getting different kinds then I got confused. If its faster to apply for outland, then I would just change my application forms.

These forms are for INLAND:

And these forms are for OUTLAND:

In that case you could choose to have the application sent to Manila or Buffalo. Both of which are pretty expedient.

Ok, im still confused... So I got the part 1 and part 2 filled out... Everything is the same with the forms i have... Though there is a "part 3". Does "part 3" go with all the forms (from part 1 and 2) to Mississauga?

Yes, everything goes to Mississauga together. All the forms, all the supporting evidence, all the documents.

Great! Thanks, now at least I know my application is going somewhere! However, if I would do the outland... would my spouse need to leave or exit Canada? And how about inland? Does he have to exit?

I think if he applies in Canada he can have problems leaving, but if he's applying outside he can come and go as usual.
