Confused with Visitor Visa and Work Visa in CIC online application

Hi,

Currently I am on open work permit, I would like to apply for Work Visa but online application is not allowing me to apply work visa rather its forcing me to apply Visitor visa.

I went thru the CIC online application Questionnaire and finally it showed me below 3 options that I am eligible

1. extend workpermit
2. Temporary resident visa
3. Open workpermit.

I have selected the Temporay resident visa and answered the questions.

The name of the application form is " Application for Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa) Made Outside of Canada (IMM5257)" , I am confused with the name of the application as it says, that application for visitor visa made outside of canada, which is completely opposite to what I am supposed to apply.

currently I am in canada on open workpermit holding a Job, I would like to apply work visa not the visitor visa.

Kindly suggest me how can i get work visa rather than Visitor visa.

there are no "work visas", only work permits. A temporary resident visa is a visitor's visa. If you want a work permit, that is the wrong choice. Since you are already here on a work permit, you would chose "extend work permit."

You need to apply for a temporary resident visa (TRV) while within Canada.

Write "Returning Worker" or "Others/Currently a Worker in Canada" as purpose of your visit. You may also write a one liner in your cover letter to mention that you are already in Canada as a worker and have a valid work permit and are applying for a multiple entry TRV for worker. They will automatically issue you a visitor visa with type as Worker. You will also have to attach a copy of your valid work permit with the application.

I had a valid work permit but my visa had expired last year, few weeks ago I got a TRV for myself (though from outside of Canada) using the same method.
