Hi, great to be here! :)

Not sure about you guys, but I am a bit confused about the new FSW points system. Can i ask for a help and to correct me if I am wrong (or tap me on the shoulder if i am right) with calculating the points:

25 points for your education (I have an MSc, profession on the list)
10 points for your age (age 34)
16 points for English/French language ability (IELTS: reading and listening: 8.5, writing: 7, speaking 7.5, french none)
21 points for your work experience (about 4.5 years)
0 points for arranged employment
5 points for adaptability (wife has an MSc)
77 total points

Thanks, should I be tapped on a shoulder or elsewhere for the above calculations? ;D

This is old points system. Pls visit www.cic.gc.ca

For work exp, max points are 15, but u will get more points n IELTS

Thank you coolguy2010 for a tip and especially ESZB for a detailed correction !

The original CIC website is very confusing. I have recently applied for a visa in Australia - their website's info is written for people not for agents and immigration professionals like it seems to be with CIC.

Do you guys know what the chances are to get the visa? It looks pretty slim as only 300 people will be granted visa in each profession group.

Is there any website which informs if the quota/cap is still open ?

Thanks guys,
M.

You're welcome brother. Well it depends on which NOC are you applying for.... if its one of the popular NOCs then yes the chances are probably slim. This is especially true for NOC 2174,2147 and 1112. CIC provides updates on the no. of completed applications it has received so far. If you tell your NOC... then perhaps we can guide u better.

Thanks ESZB ,

My NOC is nothing fancy, nothing with computer or finances. I am geologists - modest NOC 2113 category for Geoscientists and oceanographers. It would be good to know if there are any places left for geos.

Cheers,
M.

You are welcome. Appreciate your modesty but I am a civil engineer working towards hydro-power projects and I know the importance of geologists and geoscientists. :) Well I say you send your application as soon as possible. And please do share your info in the FSW 2013 Timeline thread the admins of that thread have prepared an excellent spreadsheet incorporating info of most 2013 applicants in this forum.

Hi ESZB,

Thanks for all the tips. I sent my app 2 days ago via DHL and keep my fingers crossed. I understand that it will be <6 months that I need to keep my fingers in that position as the payment form requires the fee credit card to be valid for half a year.

Please pass the link to the spreadsheet.

Cheers,
M

Thanks ESZB,

I have checked the sheet and the useful links in it. From looking at the CIC website, I understand that they only updated the applications received up till 4th May 2013 but suppose to do it every week ::)

It is also not clear if someone who is not currently in Canada can get the PR with the FSW program? Can I call the employer and say that I have enough points but only need the job offer ?

Hello trewaz,

Do you think so many people in this forum who are applying for FSW are all currently residing in Canada?? Thats not the case. Residing in Canada and having a Job offer is not mandatory for applying for FSW 2013. Actually the FSW has separate categories for applicants with and without a job offer from Canada. Go through the following link:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who-instructions.asp

If you:
1. do not have a job offer from a Canadian employer, you have to apply under the FSW NOC Category called FSW 1. This category has a 300 cap limitation.
2. have a job offer from a Canadian employer, you have to apply under the FSW Arranged Employment Category called FSW 2. This category does not have cap.

So the "Job offer from Canada?" is included in the question to know whether you are from the NOC category or the Arranged Employment Category.

Hope it helps

Hi ESZB,

Thank you for the clarification.

I have already sent my application under NOC category, without the job offer, but don't think I will have much luck as I am more than 2 months behind other candidates.

For that reason, I was thinking if it's a good idea to call some employers in Canada saying that I am happy to arrange the paperwork on my side including the removal and flight cost. I could then update my application with CIC.

But the question here is - can the application be updated and if not how long will it take for CIC to send my papers back.

Probably you guys have already came up with this sort of idea before and it's not that simple but it's worth asking anyway :)
Cheers,
Michal
