Confused on Canadian Immigration!

Hello,

I've been reading through the forum and it seems like it is insanely hard for people to visit Canada. I have a gf who wants to visit Vancouver and is a Chinese citizen. She is still a student and we are confused as to what type of visa she would need? I assume it would be a TRV but even then it seems alot of the applicants are rejected? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is your girlfriend is coming to visit Canada and that is her genuine and only intention then she needs only a visitor visa, TVR.

It will depend on the particulars in the application submitted whether she will be approved or not. Many are and also, lots are not.

If you and your GF really wants to take a visit of Canada Vancouver then you should apply under the Visitor Visa.

excuse my lack of knowldge but what is the difference between a visitor visa and a TVR?

I just find it amazing how many visas are rejected and I am afraid that hers will be rejected as well

Sorry, there are so many acronyms.

A visitor visa can be known as VV or CVV.

A TVR is a temporary visitor record and would only be issued at a port of entry by a CBSA officer if they believe the case warrants monitoring to ensure the visitor leaves as required.

I would assume that regardless of what type of visa it is the process will be a difficult one? Even if she is only coming to visit for a short period of time?

Not so much difficult as time consuming to get all of the information together that is needed to satisfy the decision maker that she is a genuine visitor and not missing filling in any of the blanks on the forms!

A visitor must provide evidence of strong ties to their country of residence and that their visit is temporary. As a student, she can provide most recent transcripts/grades, registration for the next semester/academic year, receipt of fee payment, sufficient funds for her trip, etc to show strong ties to China. There may be an interview. Don't lie about your relationship either

I will defintely relay the information showing strong ties to China but out of sheer curiosity how would sufficient funds for her trip equate to showing strong ties to China??

Visitors are not allowed to work in Canada. Not having sufficient funds raises red flags that you may work illegally to support yourself. Once in Canada though, there are avenues to obtain a work permit but the application must be mailed to visa office outside canada(e.g Buffalo, New York) or one can go to the border to have it processed.

That makes sense but with that in mind isn't "sufficient funds" a bit subjective? What one person may think is enough to survive on for a week or two may be different from another person.

A bit odd to delve into work permits for this question where the writer has presented a scenario related to a 2 week visit for which it is likely an itinerary for travel, school attendance schedules and so on would be involved.

Sufficient funds are something the decision maker will have tables/experience to rely upon depending on various locations of where the visit is to take place in addition to the credibility of the information provided from the applicant.

We are here to share information and knowing that a work permit is a possibility even if not needed now can't be a bad thing. But you are certainly entitled to your opinion.
