Conformation of PR/ next steps

My parents got the confirmation of pr. What are the next steps? Just activate the papers on the canadian border? They never asked us to send the passport away. Is it necessary for Germany?

If they are German citizens, then Germany is a visa exempt country for Canada, so no, you don't need any visa in the passport itself, just the CoPR and list of goods accompanying and goods to follow, then hop on a plane and declare PR at your first port of landing in Canada.
