Hi All,

My wife and I have received our Confirmation of Permanent residence forms. In the covering letter it states we can leave the country and come back ..or.. attend our local CIC office by appointment only.

We are really struggling to get an answer from the central Helpline as what the wait time is at our local office ( Canada Place, Edmonton, Alberta)

Has anyone done this and achieved their landed status from inside Canada ?? especially recent experience from within Alberta please.

All help gratefully received

Congratulations!

If you are near a land border, you can simply `flagpole' to land. All you do is drive down and tell the U.S. Border Officer that you are flagpoling back into Canada to become a PR. S/he will basically turn you around and send you back to the Canadian side, where you present your CoPR and then park and enter the CBSA building to complete the process.

It is usually a few months before the 'local' office can fit you in for a landing appointment. You must pay attention to the expiry date listed on your COPR as this is the last date your COPR is valid and you can not land if that date passes. You would need to apply again from scratch.

If you are close to a US land border, you can do as Ponga suggested and 'flagpole'. As long as you advise CBP that you are flagpoling in order to 'land' in Canada they are well versed in the subject and will get you taken care of so you can then turn around and 'land' in Canada. If you are not near enough to a US border to just drive and 'flagpole', might I suggest this time of year is lovely to take a short impromptu vacation? :D

Just make sure you pay attention to that expiry date if you are going to wait for them to schedule you for a landing appointment.
