Complex visa situation

Hi everyone,
My friend is an a complex situation. Her study visa is expiring on september 30, 2025, she had applied for a study permit extension yesterday i.e. sep 25,2025. She will get her letter of study completion by october 20,2025. Now if she applies for her PGWP( post grad work permit) on 21 October,
First: can she apply for PGWP on mainted status ( student visa applied status)?
Second: Can she work if she can apply for PGWP ( until the decision is made)?

Yes, your friend can apply for a PGWP from inside Canada as long as her study permit was valid at the time she completed her program, even if it expires before she applies. Since she applied to extend her study permit before it expired, she’s on maintained status and can legally stay in Canada—but she cannot work after receiving the letter of completion until she applies for PGWP and gets a work authorization under PGWP fnf eligibility. I went through something similar, and the key is to stop working after program completion until the PGWP application is submitted.

You cannot work on maintained status even if you submit PGWP application. Can only work on valid study permit.
