Hi guys, I got a question regarding marital status. I'm living abroad in Australia right now on a working visa with my partner whom I am going to sponsor. We lived together for 1 year. However, when I was going through the application there was a section asking "Date entered into Common-Law" and I did not know about changing martial status especially because we are currently living outside of Canada. Does this mean we are doomed to apply? or going to cause some delays in the application process? Any reply is much appreciated!! Thanks guys.

That is just the date you reached 12 months of cohabitation to officially become common-law.

The only Canadian entity you are supposed to change your marital status with at that time, is CRA for tax purposes. This should not have an impact on your PR app though, as you don't need to inform CIC about becoming common-law until you actually submit the application.

So that date should be once me and my partner reaches 12 months of cohabilitation? Also, because i am temporarily living overseas should I contact CRA to change my marital status before sending in the application? or does it not matter. Thanks.
