Hello all,

I will apply for my PR soon but I have the dilemma about under which category should I apply: Common law Sponsorship vs Express Entry

I have been living with my fiance (we will be marry in September) for more than a year. He is Canadian and 18 years older than I. We have all the proof and legal documents required to apply under Common law Sponsorship.

On another hand, I have one year of full time experience in a job category B, a master degree in Business from a Canadian University but I have not take the ielts (I can get 7.5 or 8).

Which category, do you think will be the best for me? I have that dilemma because I heard than under Common law sponsorship I could be waiting years for an answer (Maybe I am wrong)

What do you think?

Thanks,

I would apply as common law. Yes - you may be waiting a year for an answer - however there's no guarantee your EE application will be processed faster. Some people get through in four months - some wait more than a year. Plus with EE you have to get your education assessed, take IELTS and achieve a high score (which requires studying even if English is your first language), collect the right work experience evidence, etc. This will take months. Plus if you only have a year of work experience, you may not have enough points to be selected under EE immediately. My bet is that common law will be faster overall - especially if you apply outland.
