Hey, So I recently became a permanent resident through common-law. I had been with my partner for over four years and we have a three year old child together. We have not been able to resolve our difference and are now split up. In the eyes of immigration law where do I stand now. Does it matter now I have my Pr that we are not together? Obviously I want to stay in the country to be with my child, at the end of the five years when I apply for for PR/citizenship will this be an issue? Want to file my taxes separately also, Any advice would be much appreciated.

Given how long you have been with your partner and the fact you have a child together, I can't imagine you'll have any issues keeping your PR status and applying for citizenship once you qualify. PR would only be revoked if your partner claimed you had entered into a marriage of convenience, reported you to IRCC, and IRCC investigated and agreed.

Other issue would be if you had clearly separated before the landing but had not indicated that you were no longer living together and there had been a change in your relationship.
