Coming to Canada on a valid IEC but leaving after the quarantine?

Hey everyone,

I intend to emigrate to Canada long term, but due to corona I am in no hurry as I have very comfortable work/life arrangement especially suitable for lockdowns. I'd like to use my IEC as it makes transitioning into PR much easier, I can get an engineering job via recruiter but as I work in something that is rather niche it is far easier finding desired job on site as those aren't advertised as often.

My IEC entry deadline is due to run out within next few months. I would be happy for the clock to start counting down on the IEC and in a year or so (my IEC visa is 2 years) I could come to Canada and actually be able to socialise with people rather than being stuck in a room in perpetuity. As far as I'm aware the only way to start the IEC visa is to enter the country.

So my question is, if I get a job offer, come to Canada, quarantine and after the quarantine leave the country would I be breaking any legal requirements or casting myself in negative light towards the immigration authorities for future interactions?

As far as my research goes I wouldn't be breaking any terms of the visa, maybe just misrepresenting my goals to an employer.

If anyone knows something I know from the legal standpoint or anecdotes I'd love to know.

Thanks for your answers!

You would be misrepresenting your intentions and pissing off a potential future employer. Not the best plan. If discovered you risk being refused entry.

It's not really a potential employer in that particular case.

I should have a job offer, not an intent to work based on what i've seen.

What would be your assessment on staying in the country but continuing to work remotely for current employer?

If it isn’t a confirmed job or an accepted offer then you may not be able to board the plane. You are on IEC. You must be working for a Canadian employer or travelling.
