College English Teacher currently living as immigrant in Calgary. How to get Work Visa without a job offer? Please help.

If you are an immigrant then you would be able to work. You are just a visitor. If you are a US citizen then look at post doc research positions at universities. You are not eligible for an open work permit unless you have Canadian/PR spouse who is sponsoring you. Or spouse on study or work permit.

I am a US citizen who wants to stay, work, and become a resident of Canada. I am 58.
At 58 you aren't going to get PR. You can come as a visitor and stay up to 6 months. Immigration is focused on young people, education with Canadian and foreign work experience, Canadian education and fluency in both languages. At 58, you aren't not eligible to submit a profile. You cannot get an open work permit. Look at CUSMA and get professor position at a university.
If you have been in Canada more than 6 months then you have lost status and in the country illegally.
So leave before 6 months. You aren't living in Canada as an immigrant. You are a visitor.
You are not eligible for an open work permit visa. Is your spouse Canadian? Being a US citizen doesn't give you any advantage. Already told you. If you want to extend your stay as a visitor then apply for a visitor record.
If you can get a post doc research position with University of Calgary then look into that. Assume you have a PhD.
I'm not sure you recognize how your tone is coming across, but it's curt and bordering on rude. While I appreciate the information, your delivery is harsh.

To be fair this is just realistic. Visiting Canada and assuming you can stay longterm without doing the research before arriving is what drives most Canadians crazy. Had you done any research before entering Canada you would have known that remaining longterm or getting a WP likely won’t be possible and especially within your timeframe. Your only hope is if you qualify to work under CUSMA. That still doesn’t provide a longterm future in Canada so you would need to leave eventually.
It is not rude. It is realistic because you are 58 years old. Being a US citizen means nothing. People are retiring or thinking of retirement. Canadian immigration is for young people in their 30s with Canadian and foreign work experience and fluency in French and English. You aren't eligible for an open work permit. Look into CUSMA but you will need a job offer.
They aren’t being rude , they are giving you your options . You’re at the age where you should have done research PRIOR to coming to a foreign country . Not coming as a visitor and referring to yourself as an “ immigrant “
Being an American is irrelevant.
If you’re a college professor you are aware of the term “ research .”
You are attempting to do the same thing as the people who are in the USA , who are being removed by the US Government. Coming to a foreign country and expecting to be able to stay
Being here three months already without doing ANY research about a countries immigration laws shows incredibly poor planning. And you have higher education.
American exceptionalism won’t get you far here
