Can agreement with collective agency in previous country of resident affect my PR application.

My bank (in UK) sent me to collective agency after I came to Canada. I contacted them and agree to pay of a dept even though it wasn't mine (my ex's). I pay every month, according to the agreement.
Do the immigration checks such a think? What does the background check mean at all?

I don't think you would have any problem as long as your traces are clean. Collective agency is not a big deal. Security check simply means that they want to check if you're not a threat to Canada. Such as terrorism, you being a criminal, etc.

Don't worry, you wouldn't have any issues.
