Hello,
My husband and I have secured our 2 year working visas for Canada - we are New Zealand citizens.

We are considering flying into LA, purchasing a car, and driving across the Canadian border.
1. Can we pick up our working visas by driving across the border, or is this something you can only do at International Airports?
2. The car we purchased will be be registered to the US - do we need to change the registration to Canadian? I've read that because we are not permanent residents, we can keep the the US registration.

Sure you can activate your IEC at the land border assuming you have your full term insurance and proof of funds. Don’t know what arrangements you are making for insurance whilst in the US but keep in mind if same policy CBSA will take that as the start date and could adjust your IEC term accordingly.

Assume you have read the info in this link re motor vehicles imported from the US and your obligations about re exporting
