Closed WP to Open WP

Hi Friends,

I am on a closed work permit working for an employer A as a software engineer and have a valid visa till 2021.
But once my VISA gets expired, I may have to relocate back to my home country as the new project will be over by the time.

Is it possible to convert my closed work permit to Open Work permit, so that I can work for another employer B once my current project is over?

If so, I would like to take the opportunity to convert it before my VISA expires.

Unfortunately it's not possible to covnert your closed work permit to an open work permit. If you want to continue working in Canada or work for a new employer - you would need a new closed work permit which requires your employer to obtain an approved LMIA.

If you manage to qualify, apply and are selected for a permanent residency immigration program, then you may qualify for an open work permit.
