Hi everyone,

I am on closed work permit but recently lost my job. I want to apply for open work permit. Is it possible? I think I meet the requirements, but I am unsure on a few things:

1. I have submitted my profile into the Express Entry pool, but I have not been invited yet. Does this mean that "I have applied for PR"?
2. What are the downsides for applying for open work permits?
3. What is the timeline foe this process?

Thanks.

1. No you have just submitted a profile. You have not applied for PR.
2. & 3. You are not eligible for an open work. How do you think you meet requirements?

Open work permit is not possible at this time.

You need to receive ITA and submit your complete application to qualify for an open work permit.

As of now you have not "applied for PR". All you have done is entered the EE pool.

As already mentioned, you don't qualify for open work permit. I would advise you to apply for visitor record to avoid going out of status. What's your CRS score for EE?

This score will only work if you know French at a CLB7 level.

As said above, you don't qualify for an open work permit. So you would need to secure a job offer and approved LMIA so that you can apply for a closed work permit.

Would warn you that finding an employer willing to either apply for an LMIA or has one already and getting your WP assessed may take 6+ months.
