Hi, guys.. I am about to send my application and I ran into to something I don't know how to proceed.
I got married in Ontario three months ago and I've never been married before.
In the application checklist, it says that I have to have a civil status document. What is this? as I said before I have never been married in my country, Brazil, which would mean that I'm still single there. I haven't had the time to change that.

Thank you.

isn't a "civil status" document a marriage certificate? or is this one of those country specific things?

I'd say so and I have the marriage certificate.
here is what it says exactly: Identity and civil status documents as per document list provided with the Immigrant's Guide..
PS: I can't find this Guide.

the immigrant's guide is THE guide for filling out the forms. it will be on the CIC website where the forms are located.

Hey.. I am still confused.
Apparently, it says birth certificate. But should it be a new one or on old one (dated in 2000) is fine?
This application can make one very confused =/

i thought birth certificates are obtained once, just after birth. never heard of a renewed one.

Me too.. but apparently my mother had another one taken 9 years after my birth (2000).
Maybe in my country it is like that.
I'm very confused about how to state I've never been married.

You don't have to prove that you have never been married. Not sure that there is any way to do that at all.

If you got married you are not single in Brazil....you are married!

I married in Canada and I'd have to apply at the embassy to have it recognized in Brazil.
That's how it works, no?
