Civil marriage statement vs. Certificate

Need quick answer to this. What is difference between civil marriage statement and certificate? We got statement and have got from few places an answer that it is a legal marriage document. We got insurance, benefits etc and nobody haven't say it's not. Also person who did civil marriage ceremony said it is a document we need. A proof of marriage. And province is alberta.
