I just found out my great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great grand uncle was João Vaz Corte Real, the portuguese navigator who first discovered Newfoundland. Does that mean I can obtain canadian citizenship? I also have a great aunt who immigrated to Canada.

No - you cannot obtain citizenship through your great grand uncle. If you wish to become a citizen of Canada, you first have to qualify and apply for permanent residency. To do this, you would need to qualify through one of Canada's economic immigration streams based on your work experience, level of education, language capabilities, funds available to settle in Canada, etc. Once you have lived in Canada a number of years as a PR, you can then qualify for citizenship.

No, only parents can pass on citizenship, that's it. Cool story though.
