For a paper Citizenship grant application via a lawyer (authorized representative), how does the online status tracker work? Is it only the lawyer who can have access to the tracker or the applicant can create a tracker too?

Back in 2019 my personal experience was this wasn't possible - the system couldn't find my application to link when I was using a representative.

But now it seems like this has changed. From the official source, https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...es/application/account/link-paper-online.html

> After you link your application, you won’t receive paper letters about your application. We’ll send messages about your application to your account.
> If you’re using a representative, they’ll lose access when you link the application to your account.

So maybe chat with your lawyer/consultant about this first, so the loss of access on their side doesn't impact anything.

Solution:
If an application has an authorized representative/ lawyer, the applicant can create their own online citizenship applicant tracker (with a username/ password) AND the authorized representative will not lose access as they access all their applications via a Party ID. This means that the applicant can view the status of their application in real-time, and wouldn't have to rely on their authorized representative.

The applicant tracker can only be created once an intimation is received via email from IRCC (with Subject: Follow the progress of your citizenship grant application / Suivez le progrès de votre demande d’attribution de la citoyenneté) and ideally when the authorized representative can also see the applicant's application status on their portal i.e., through the Party ID.

To create the applicant tracker, the IRCC system sends a verification code to the email on file (i.e., the authorized representative). Therefore, it'll require coordination with the authorized representative to create the applicant's tracker account. However, it is important to note that the email updates/ notifications of the applicant's application will still be sent on the authorized representative's email address, unless it is updated by contacting IRCC directly.

If the applicant wants to cancel or update the authorized representative, then they need to fill the Use of a Representative Form (IMM 5476).

Goodluck!
