Hi, I have applied for a citizenship in February 2018. Was invited to take citizenship test today. I passed it, but the officer wasn't satisfied (it looked like) with my current situation (my husband lives in USA, I am traveling back and forward). Since I applied for citizenship, I had to stay with my husband in US most of the time. I fulfilled all the obligations for citizenship though, I was present for more than 183 days every year here in Canada. The officer told me that my case will be under review and if everything works, she will send me the letter of invitation for the ceremony.

My question is: Do I still need to stay in Canada for 183 days a year? In case I won't be granted the citizenship and I want to appeal or re-apply, could my absence during this year (staying in Canada less that 183 days) be an issue?

Others can comment but by referring to 183 days in each year believe you are referring to the old rules which changed last year. Citizenship now requires someone to have been physically present in Canada for 3 years in the 5 years prior to the application date. See the changes in link below specifically bullet #. 8

It used to be that needed to show intent to live in the country and this changed as well, see bullet #2, so seems strange that living with your spouse in US would be an issue.

As far as I know you can live outside Canada whilst your application is processing but must be prepared to return at short notice if required to complete any process requirements such as ceremony for example.

For future reference best to post citizenship questions in the citizenship section
