Hi,

Does any one know when the processing fee would be increased?
I saw somewhere on this forum that CIC is going to increase the Citizenship fee to $400, which will help in faster processing time. I am eligible to apply after 8th May, but am waiting for the last three months for fee increase.
Should I apply or wait till fee increase?
I traveled abroad 4 times ( 4 months, 2 weeks, 3 weeks and 4 months) in my first year and half due to getting marry and medical emergency but have not traveled for the last 2 years and 2 months.
should i wait or apply? My office should be Mississauga.

If fee is increased, it will help applications with existing backlog also. It won't be like that people who paid $400 will have faster processing as compared to people who paid $200.

Noolan,
By you paying more fees does not mean that it will expedite the process of your application...whenever you will apply do remember there are thousands of applicants ahead of you...so if i were you i would just go ahead and apply.

Thanks rajmalhotra and OKK. I was thinking that whenever CIC change the rules, they start processing the new one first whereas the old applicants are put on back burner.... Just want to hear your thoughts. Thanks for sharing. I would apply this week and then sit tight...... Canada is a great country but all this bureaucratic style of governance is pathetic... you wait years for your immigration.... then you wait years for your citizenship.. sickening..

I can sure understand your frustration however they will not priorities application who paid more than others...the idea behind increasing the fees is to fix the whole system, hire more people etc etc...the idea is not at all to ignore the old applications and process the new ones....so i would suggest just go ahead and apply

I agree that paying only $200 extra will not expedite an individual application processing - that's common sense. If CIC starts a new priority scheme, they must declare it first to the public and I believe the additional fee will be much higher than $200. Something like H1B processing in the States.

I strongly feel it is not the funds or resources that is scarce which results in backlogs. It is sheer lack of openness and the attitude to use power to illegally obstruct the otherwise genuine process due to some sick bias - that has caused these many frustrations and bulk of an overload of work for future CIC resources and applicants alike. This kind of backlog has never been seen any time in the past in the history of modern Canada. So I would rather not have the fees increased as it is only throwing one's money away and no good comes from it. Remember: fee increase does not translate into better application processing.
