Dear Friends

I am going to apply citizenship this week. Have few queries. could you please provide some insights.

1. I moved to Canada as PR from India . I lived in Canada for 3 years and never left the country.
So my question, Should I still get PCC from India? as the out of 4 years period 1 year in India, birth /origin country.
2. Question: Did you ever leave Canada during the past 5 years? For this question, should i say Yes or NO. as in the past 5 years, I spent 2 years in home country , after getting PR, 3 years in Canada.

1. No you don’t need but IRCC can still ask for it. So be prepared just in case they do at a later stage
2. Yes you spent time outside canada during the 5 years preceding your application submission date

Thank you. If I answer Yes to question 2, Question 1 is obvious to get the PCC.
Here is where i am confused. some people in forums says time before PR wont count,.

To make it simple, here is the extract from the IRCC website. Since you came directly from your home country before becoming a PR, you dont need (but as I said IRCC can still ask for it). The lookback period for the application is 5 years whereas the lookback period for the purpose of asking for police certiticate is 4 years (even if you were not a PR in the first year of those 4).

Cheers

You need to provide a police certificate from each country outside Canada if you were there
  • in the past 4 years
  • for 183 days or more in a row and
  • since the age of 18
You don’t need to provide a police certificate if
  • you were in your country of origin immediately before becoming a permanent resident and landing in Canada and
  • this time falls within the past 4 years
To be valid, the police certificate must be issued
  • after the last time you were in that country, or
  • within 6 months of signing your application form
We may request a police certificate at any point during processing even if you already submitted a valid certificate.

If you can’t get a police certificate, tell us why not in the textbox of question 10b of the application form.

thank you , But about this question " Did you ever leave Canada during past 4 years?" I never left canada, so I wanted to write as NO. But the 4 year duration falls under my time spent in Home country. In such as should I say Yes?
I even called IRCC, they said they cant say anything. They said its upto my discretion what to fill .

The answer is YES. You did leave Canada or had technically spent time outside Canada. It has nothing to do with your status as PR. It simply asks about your physical presence over the past 4 years.
