Hello!
(Please read to the end before copying & pasting a reply with a link ;))

This is regarding ONTARIO only (not other provinces). For SINP, please refer to this thread instead.

As you know, when you evaluate your CSR score for express entry, question number 7 is an interesting one as it can give you 50 points:

7) Do you have a certificate of qualification from a Canadian province, territory or federal body?
Note: A certificate of qualification lets people work in some skilled trades in Canada. Only the provinces, territories and a federal body can issue these certificates. To get one, a person must have them assess their training, trade experience and skills to and then pass a certification exam.

People usually have to go to the province or territory to be assessed. They may also need experience and training from an employer in Canada.

Question 1:
Does this apply to computer & IT NOCs for ONTARIO? sample NOCs: 2171, 2173, 2147 etc.
I know it is possible for SINP (Saskatchewan) but my question is regarding Ontario.

Problem: as someone mentioned in this thread, according to CIC:
It proves that a person is qualified to work in a certain skilled trade in Canada.

The problem is here! Does it mean even if your job is not a trade job, then you won't get these 50 points, even if you have the best certificates?

[Update]: Here is the list of skilled trades in Ontario. There are some IT jobs, but I cannot see anything related to 2171 or 2173, etc. Are they considered as "skilled trade" in Ontario?

On the other hand, when I refer to CIC list of skilled trade, I can see this

Skilled work experience
Skilled trades for the Federal Skilled Trades Program are organized under these groups of the National Occupational Classification (NOC):

  • Major Group 72, industrial, electrical and construction trades
  • Major Group 73, maintenance and equipment operation trades
  • Major Group 82, supervisors and technical jobs in natural resources, agriculture and related production
  • Major Group 92, processing, manufacturing and utilities supervisors and central control operators
  • Minor Group 632, chefs and cooks
  • Minor Group 633, butchers and bakers

These major groups don't contain group 21 (which is for 2171, 2173, 2147 etc.). So, then why it is counter for Saskatchewan under SNIP?

Any ideas? I'm totally confused!:(o_O

Question 2:
If the answer to question1 is yes, then how can we obtain such a certificate? and who can issue that?
As I know, CIPS issuing some certificates such as ITCP and so on.
1- Will that be counted for Ontario?
2- Is there any other institute or something, that can issue something eligible?

Question 3:
HOW CAN I GET THAT 50 POINTS FOR 2171, 2173, etc.?! :)

1) No - it doesn't apply. Certificate of qualifications only applies to trades. Your occupation is not a skilled trade.
2) See above - not possible
3) See above - not possible

Thank you mate! :) Ok, then it doesn't apply for OINP.

Another question to remove any doubts: Imagine I have 350 points right now. please help me to know which of the following scenarios is correct:

Scenario 1: having this certificate will help me getting 50 points and reaching 400, but if I'm going to apply for OINP (or other provinces that my NOC is not a skilled trade to them, then it doesn't count)

Scenario 2: This certificate doesn't add any points at all, regardless of whichever province I chose. It might be useful later if I apply for SINP or those who have my NOC as a skilled trade

I really appreciate your help! :)
