no reply from cio, only received the confirmation that application has been received via mail. My friend didn't order receipt IMM5401, paid through a draft to RECEIVER GENERAL IN CANADA. So, I don't have the number B000000000. please clear my confusion and tell me if this draft through which I paid is right?

Did you get a reply from CIO yet? Is there a number with a B infront of it next to the barcode on the top right hand corner? Ask your friend to send that number to you.

Hi - I sent my app to the CIO in early April - I just received the (positive) response by email last week, so that was about 2 months. The email included a receipt for the $550 payment. I have not received anything by mail as of this time. There was NO communication in between, and no wait time listed on the website.

You can't check anything until you get this reply. How long has it been? Give it about 2 months...

do you know the reason (or have a guess) on why some other applicant take one month only. I also submitted mine in April but have not received any response yet...

Different people might have different postal times between Sydney and their home town.
They might send their letters in bulk. There was like a week and a half days difference between the date on my letter and the date when it was actually sent.

Hi Coolangy,

If, as you said, your friend paid with a draft, then there was no need for receipt IMM5401.

Instructions for filing of application to CIO includes instructions on payment of application fees (IMM EG7000) and it states "In Canadian funds only, you may pay by certified cheque, bank draft or money order made payable to the “Receiver General for Canada.”

Receipt IMM5401 is used for payment of fees directly to banks in Canada (it's like making a direct deposit payment to the account of CIC) and payment for PR application can only be made with certified cheque, bank draft or money order.
