Hey all,

I've been living and working in Canada now for 11 months and this Monday (1st Aug) which is exactly 11 months since I started working here, CIC automatically updated my express entry profile to say that I now meet the CEC criteria. So I got an extra 35 points which gives me a total of 493 points. If the next draw is similar to previous draws I think I might then receive an ITA.

However, I'm worried about this since I have read that you must have worked in Canada for one year/52 weeks before you are eligible for CEC. I didn't change anything in my application (it was automatically updated, I just received an email that it had been updated) and I have gone over the application again just to be sure everything is correct. The start date for my job in Canada clearly states September.

Has anyone else had a similar experience and what would you suggest that I do? I don't want to receive an ITA and apply to later be denied because at the time I didn't have exactly one year of work experience in Canada.

Thankful for any input.

this happens to many many people, and this question is asked daily - it is unfortunately the way the system was designed. You have to be eligible at the time you receive the ITA, and it is up to you (not the system) to determine that. So if you receive the ITA before you have completed 1 year, you should decline it (assuming you want the ITA to be for the CEC class).

What would happen if you accepted the it? CIC would re-calculate your score - they would subtract that 35 points, and if your new score was below the selection threshold for your draw, you would be found ineligible.

On the other hand, if your new score was still above the threshold for the draw, you would still be eligible, but nof for CEC (presumably you also have foreign work experience) and would be invited under the FSW or FST program. - assuming you have sufficient funds...

I'm in the same situation, got my eligibility for CEC changed on the 11th month.

How much time do we have to accept/reject ITA?

CIC says that it expires ITA which was neither accepted nor rejected in 60 days. If that's correct then it looks like we can wait a month to have 12 months of work experinece to accept it.

Please advise on this.

You have to be eligible when the ITA is issued...

Thanks for your input. So if I understand correctly, I can't use the ITA that I just received and send in my application on the 1st of September when I will have 52 weeks of work experience?

I should decline this ITA and hope that I will receive a new ITA in the first draw in September and then apply since I will meet the requirements then?

Thanks again for everyone's input.
