Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Hi all,

I am a US citizen living with my Canadian boyfriend in Canada. I submitted a visitor extension application about a month ago and received an update this morning stating that CIC needs another document.

When I checked the message, it said that in order to continue processing my application for temporary residence, they needed:

"Letter of support: Letter from the person whom you depend on economically stating they are responsible for you, with his/her proof of funds or employment. This must be received at this office by 2016/04/05."

However, I already provided this. I uploaded a proof of financial support document when I sent in the app. It starts off with a signed letter from my boyfriend saying he is supporting me. The same document also includes his employment letter as well as a large savings fund and his paystubs from work. So they have his word and proof of funds.

Why is CIC asking for this and what should I do? Is it possible that the whole document somehow didn't upload properly or is this just a mistake on CIC's part? Should I contact them or just re-upload the file they requested? Now I'm concerned it might be an upload issue and wondering what other documents they didn't get if so. I'd really appreciate any advice, as I'm really worried about being denied my extension.

Thanks, everyone!

They might have missed it - or it's possible the documents didn't fully upload (hard for us to guess which it is). I would just send everything again. If you are sending electronically, I would send each as a separate document rather than combining.

Hi, Scylla. Thanks for the fast response.

When you say send everything again, do you mean just for that 1 proof of financial support document or all the others as well? I applied online and uploaded a letter of explanation in another file as well as passport photos in another file. I also uploaded the extension pics in yet another separate file.

I can't send each as a separate document with the way they have it set up in the online application. They only give you a few slots to upload so anything related to financial support has to go in one doc, etc.

Thanks, Tahiti. Yes, I will but what if it is an upload issue via the MyCIC portal and they don't receive it again and deny my extension?

Follow it with a hard copy?

Also, just another note about this. I just checked the description for the "letter of support" they requested from me and it differs from the proof of means of financial support document I already provided. So maybe they want more evidence instead or something. I am confused.

Here is the description:

"If you depend on someone financially, that person can provide proof that they have sufficient funds to support you in Canada by writing a letter of support.

The letter includes the amount of money this person will be providing, with supporting evidence of their relationship to you. Along with the letter, proof that this person has sufficient funds can be shown by submitting as many of the following as possible:"

Then it goes on to list the bank account info, statements, letter of person providing you with money, etc.

So are they saying I need to revise my letter and include the amount of money monthly my boyfriend provides to support me? I didn't know it needed to be this specific. Should I revise (I don't really know what to put, though) or just send a repeat of what I already provided? I really wish CIC would be clear with these things. And they said "with supporting evidence of their relationship to you" so does that mean they want proof of our relationship, too, now?

It does sound as if they want more information. Send as much information as you can possibly find to avoid it being sent back or a refusal.

The thing is I'm not sure what else to provide them. We included my boyfriend's paystubs, his letter saying he'd support me, a letter from his employer, and a bank statement showing a savings of 50k. How much more financial proof do they want? Are they looking for a monthly amount? Or is it relationship proof they want?

I thought extensions were supposed to be simple for Americans. :( Now I am afraid I am going to have my extension rejected.

Bumping this to ask if I should call CIC about this. Would the call center even know what I should do?

Definitely call the call Center. Maybe it is a particular wording required for the letter of support.

Thanks for the input. I'll be calling them shortly.

Well, I called and the call center rep told me he didn't know why they requested it since he isn't the officer who will be making a decision on it, which I knew anyway. I think he said he saw it in my file, but he could just have meant that he saw the request letter they had on my file. It was hard to understand him, but the gist of it was that he said just to send it in again and sent me a link to the IRCC webform.

I thought I was supposed to upload the new file through the myCIC portal, but I guess I will do both to (hopefully) ensure they get it.

So basically I still don't know why they requested it from me. We're going to try and add more to the letter and add in extra evidence before we resend as well, just in case that is what they wanted and it wasn't a technical issue.

Another thing that confuses me is that they said they were currently working on December applications. I sent my app in on February 27, so why are they processing mine so early?

Is it okay to send the information through mail as well? And does anyone know where to send it exactly?

I'm so worried now that something is wrong with my extension app and that I'll have to leave Canada.
