Hi

Can you please share me the CIC contact number. I dont have a birth certificate for my wife, so i am planning to get a certificate of birth from the indian embassy. THought i shall check with CIC if that would be accepted.

If i obtain a certificate of birth, do i need to notarize it and any suggestions if this would be accepted as proof of birth.

It is wastage of time, money and effort. CGI does not issue Birth Certificate. It issues Certificate of Date of Birth which is nothing but confirming that your DOB is the same as it appears on your passport.
This is not acceptable by CIC.
CIC warrants one of the below as an evidence for Date of Birth.
- Birth Certificate if not,
- School certificate (which must have full name of either father / mother or both) if not,
- an affidavit to evidence date of birth.
Nothing except these listed above is accepted by CIC.
