Hoping someone has an idea of a clear answer, as we have gotten some conflicting information. How long can my wife drive in Canada as a Visitor. Her entry date is Nov 29/13, and her Visa Expiry is May 29/15.

We have been told by a car rental company she is insurable as long as it is in English (it is).
We have been told by car insurance companies they can not put her on car insurance here, as its not a valid license.

Help!

Depends on the province as to the validity of the foreign license, anywhere from 60 - 180 days. So your wife's license is no longer valid for driving in Canada. She is going to have to apply for a provincial license.

Thanks for that PMM. The province is Alberta, we were told today that 1) Yes the license is valid as long as it is a temporary visa. However, it seems that no insurance company will offer insurance to her. Making 1) meaningless, as driving without insurance is a big no-no.

Alberta allows visitors to drive for 1 year with a IDP in BC it is only 6 months.
