Maybe they have diplomatic immunity with their web-based functioning at the Beijing Embassy - I received 3 emails from them (in Nov. & Dec.) with the sender's address listed as;

Immigration Section 加拿大驻华大使馆签证处
Canadian Embassy 北京市朝阳区东直门外大街19号100600
19 Dongzhimenwai Dajie 电子邮件:beijing-immigration @ international.gc.ca
Beijing, China 100600 网址:www.beijing.gc.ca
Email: beijing-immigration @ international.gc.ca
Website: www.beijing.gc.ca

So given the .ca it's as though they're not affected by the Great Firewall....

.
I think it only affects people who communicate with CIC by Gmail address but you won't have any problem if you use yahoo email or shaw.ca or anything else.

I would be surprised if all foreign communications weren't tunneled through a VPN security server back to Canada.

Checking your gmail might become a problem in China, but the embassy should be able to send emails to it.

Hey All, haven't checked in for a while. The wife, kid and I leave Beijing for Toronto on Tuesday. Ill let everyone know about the landing process for my wife.

Quick question though, only forms i need to bring for her is her COPR that the embassy issued as well as her passport of course haha?

My wife says, yes - that's all she needed.., of course this is assuming that your Canada Visa(s) are in the passport(s) too, right?

For what it's worth, while in China last Sept. I did experience some disruptions with using gmail on and off, but used a reliable VPN at those times with no problems.

If she is leaving anything valuable in China to bring back later you need the B4? Declaration form. I filled out one with all the stuff we were bringing with us (because it says to do that too, and we had several laptops and a bunch of iCrap devices we had collected over the years) but they were uninterested in even taking my neatly filled out document of serial numbers because it all came to Canada with us.

Liam I assume you have been out of the country continuously for more than a year so if you tell them that the stuff that is obviously your stuff won't have any duty as long as you bought it over 6 months ago I believe. Might want to research that more if you need to

Ya i know about the B4 form. I haven't been in Canada for nearly 5 years so i dont have to worry about declaring my stuff. We are bringing back some electronics, some apple products and an Xbox. We will fill out the form but from what i've read most people are uninterested in it haha

Hello Fellow Applicants,

I check our ECAS occasionally and just noticed that my spouse's home address was properly changed to our home here in Canada, But her mailing address is still her old address in China - so knowing how little oversights like this can cause huge delays and potential problems, I changed it to match our home address, which proved to be a bit clumsy - in that due to the way the address change portal is programmed, you have to change your current physical address (which has not actually changed) in order to state that the mailing address is the same as... Maybe they would have eventually changed this address, but if not, it states that a failure of the applicant to change within 180 days of landing could result in a withdrawal of PR status

Have all the recently landed folks here had their mailing addresses corrected?

Thank you for reminding.

I wonder why the officer who did your wife's landing didn't update her mailing address. Because it should be done right away. I only had "home address' on my ECAS before I landed but the next day after landing I noticed my Canada mailing address showing on my ECAS. It is very important because PR card will be sent to the mailing address.

Cheers

Different officers, different days - seems all are guilty of a mistake here and there. I read in another thread that someone's recent landing date was mistakenly written as Jan. 2014 instead of 2015 on their papers which caused some problems with MSP or SIN applications.., which is why I started looking at all of our details. Glad I noticed - good to check out all of the "dotted I's and crossed T's" ???
