Hey this is more for the other people who also live in China with your partners.

You may also want to look in to getting a No Criminal Activity clearance before you go back to Canada as well. Many jobs that ask for CRC's especially those with children will want to see your time away from Canada also verified.

My wife's passport was requested Oct. 14. Today (Oct. 28) the status was updated to Decision Made. Hopefully we receive everything next week.

Passport request Oct. 14; Decision Made updated Oct. 27; Visa and COPR received Oct. 29. We're done!!

We won't be moving until March or April. In any case we need the time to sell our property here.

Good luck to all.

Morning guys,

I sponsor my parents. Ottawa office requested my parents passport on OCt 3,2014. They got passports on Oct 6th. However, still in waiting now, nothing come back. Usually how long it will take? my parents worry about it.

Happy Halloween!

How was Beijing Halloween Experience? My Beijing experience was similar to Canadian one: music, dancing and lots of drinks. But people in Canada dressed up more crazily than Beijing. Haha. :D

Lots of fun here last night at pub and we had lots of drinks.

Has anyone from the Chongqing or Chengdu area been able to get a birth certificate (and born before 1990)?

This proved absolutely impossible for us, and we had to submit without it, going for for two pages (single spaced) about everything we did to try and get it.

If someone else was able to get this document, I would be more worried because if that would raise questions about why we couldn't (although I think a Party member can get this without too much difficulty because the Party controls the dang'an (档案) or personal file which can be used as a basis for issuance).

I am sure people from elsewhere in China could get it, but the meaning of that may be limited since this seems to be a matter of local or provincial policy.

Not from that area sorry but we got the certificate from local county office for her hometown in Shaanxi called the "Fu you bao jian yuan" my wife was also born before 1990.

i can say that the "certificate" we sent seemed more like form letter which they just hand wrote inside the blank spaces the names of wife, her mother, and her father. and also hand filled in some blanks for each of their id card numbers and her bith date etc.

Then their official red stamp and date at the bottom.

we took this to the notary and they produced the English translation version and we sent that along with it in.

We are in Guangxi. My wife (born well before 1990!), first went to the police station to get them to produce a document verifying her birth information but when they found out she use to be an employee of a large company, advised her to get confirmation of her birth information there. She did so and we passed it on to the government notary office who then produced the offical "birth certificate" document along with the other required materials. Not really a birth certificate as I know it back in Canada. Anyway, no problem in the end.

Finally decision made! Why can't it just show 'approval or refusal' online???

Hopefully it is COPR instead of refusal letter in the mail!

Another strange thing is that my status online changed to Decision Made on Friday Night in Canada ( Saturday in China) Embassy in Beijing works on weekend?

Congrats! Cathy
I just sent my passport and papers few days ago and it's later than the required date so I am little bit worried.
Hopefully it won't affect in any bad way for the decision making process. Fingers crossed:)
