I'm hoping someone has been through this situation and has some experience I can draw on.

I wish to apply for a Canadian passport for my daughter who was born in South Africa but already has a Canadian citizenship certificate.

I was informed that if we wanted to travel before receiving the citizenship certificate we would have to provide proof of imminent travel. Is this "proof" also required if you DO have the citizenship certificate already?

It seems a bit weird that I would need to have this proof if I wanted to apply for her passport earlier to be safe.

Do I HAVE to book her ticket before I can apply for her passport?

Thanx for any help offered!

If you are applying for the passport for travel, they you need to show them that you are travelling and when, so they can try to issue the passport. You already have the certificate, so that has no bearing on anything...if it is a matter of coming to Canada, tell them that you are travelling on xxxx date and that you need the passport for that trip. You may need to provide the tickets....is there a Canadian embassy close by, they may be able to assist and expedite it for you if you are indeed travelling...

The imminent travel doesn't apply to you as you have proof of citizenship for the child. So you apply for a passport in the normal manner, and will get a regular passport, rather than the limited validity one.
