My brother in law is working under LMIA in Alberta. He is in a pool for Alberta Opportunity Stream and the stream gives you points for working experience and you need to hold valid work permit. His LMIA ends in summer next year and current employer does not want to support for LMIA anymore and does not give him enough hours to work (less than 30 hours a week). He's Korean and he can get a 1 year open working visa called working holiday visa. If he changes his visa status to open working visa and change his employer then would it impact on his points for the stream?

Thanks a lot!

Yes. The Employer is. I also know that his friend is working for that employer and recently received an AOS invitation with the working holiday visa so he referred my brother to this employer. I know he is eligible and the employer is but what I'd like to know is if he moves to that workplace will he lose points for AAIP. I'm talking about these points

So need to meet this too to be eligible.

At the time your application is submitted you must have either:

  • a minimum of 12 months full-time work experience in your current occupation in Alberta within the last 18 months, or
  • a minimum of 24 months of full-time work experience in your current occupation in Canada or abroad within the last 30 months or both – this work experience can be a combination of experience gained in Alberta, in Canada (outside Alberta) or abroad.

I edited my reply a bit above. Yes. He worked for almost 2 years for the current employer and when he moves to a new workplace, his job title will remain. so according to your reply, does that mean if he's worked for 12 months full time in the same occupation, will he get those work experience points regardless of employers if all employers he's worked for meet the elibilitiy?
