I've been Studying in Canada for 3 years in my 3rd year of Uni, with a study permit & also worked 2 and half years freelancing as a web designer/graphics artist with my off campus work permit and worked as Tech Support for an IT Firm (also filled taxes).

I recently was just browsing through the CIC website on how to immigrate to Canada as PR under Self Employed Persons with the Regular process. I checked the points system and to my knowledge I should score 80-90.

I was just wondering if I am allowed to change the conditions of my stay while being a student.

Also would a skilled worker or canadian experience class application be more appropriate??

I'm in Alberta

Thank you in advance...

There isn't any easy way to change status from International student to Immigrant otherwise everybody would come here as an international student and their status to immigrant. You will have to apply as a skilled worker and wait your turn to become a Permanant Resident like the rest of the people in line.

I dont agree with this assessment please check the following link: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/media/backgrounders/2008/2008-08-12a.asp

Thank you for providing the link.. Here is the info which I collected from following link:

Backgrounder

The Canadian Experience Class

Proposed minimum requirements for graduates with Canadian work experience

Under the proposed changes, graduates of a Canadian post-secondary educational institution with Canadian work experience would need to meet the following minimum requirements:

temporary resident status in Canada at the time of their application;
successful completion of a program of study of at least two academic years*;
one year of skilled, professional or technical work experience; and
moderate or basic language skills, depending on occupational skill level.
* Note: an academic year means eight months of study.

Requirements would be based on a pass or fail model. That is, if the minimum requirements were met, the applicant would be eligible. There would be no point system as with the Federal Skilled Worker Program.

Education

Under the proposed changes, the applicant would have to be a graduate of:

a Canadian public post-secondary educational institution, such as an accredited college or a university; or
a Canadian private institution authorized by provincial law to grant degrees.
The applicant would have to graduate from a program of study lasting at least two years—OR—in the case of a one-year master’s or certificate program, previous education prior to admission into the one-year program must have been completed in Canada for a total of two years of Canadian post-secondary education.

Issue is.. I am enrolling myself in 8 months certificate course(Post Graduate).. Can I enroll myself to another post graduate course after completing first one to fill in the requirement of 2yr post-secondary education in Canada??

I never said there was an easy way.. I merely asked a question and your answer is quite vague. Thanks for the other repliers

What I was wondering also was, I'll be starting my fourth year of study this September. The link you provided says at least two years of study & work experience... Which I both have... What am confused about is the graduation part, I've not graduated yet because my course is four years.. So do I have to graduate first with at least two years (diploma) ?? or completed at least two years study (graduated or not) to qualify...

Also, any insight on the self employed category??

As far as I know.. it has to be at least 2 years post secondary education in Canada and you much have GRADUATED from college/ university. 1 year work experience is minimum required AFTER your graduation (not during.. it will not be counted at all) in the category of 0, A or i think B/C. So... You still have 1 year left for graduation, and than another year for work experience.. by year.. it mean about 15months (so CIC don't have to chance to reject on exact 12 months basis)..

Hope you have clear picture now..
