Changing school from New-Brunswick to Ontario

Hi Guys,

I have a new study permit for a college in New Brunswick for autumn 2021 and I am planning to apply for a college in Ontario for winter 2022. My question when should I inform immigration Canada?

I am not planning to go to the college in New Brunswick for a personnel reason so I will wait until the winter session, in the law I have 150 days authorized leave.

Also in my study permit is the stated the name of the institution (Institution name - NB), should it be a problem?

You need a new study permit. IRCC recently changed rules so people don’t change DLIs without studying in the school they were approved for.

Sure Google “change your study permit Canada.” It will state that to change you need to be actively studying in the program you were approved for before changing programs. IRCC has caught on to all those who do this on entry into Canada.

You need new Study Permit. Though you may think you have 150days of authorized leave, That is NOT authorized leave as you abscond and want to attend other College. In those 150days, if the DLI in NB send compliance report and IRCC take action, they will cancel your SP. Make smart move, attend College in NB, then move to ON if you want to after you graduate.

And this is from the Government of Canada. Key word " While you're in Canada"

Before you change your school or program, you must meet all the conditions of your study permit. This means you must be:

• enrolled at a designated learning institution (DLI) and
• actively studying while you’re in Canada

There's no way around it. If you want to change DLI, you need to re-apply for your SP unless you are already actively studying in Canada. Your immigration lawyer is probably not aware of the new rules. Send them the link provided to you above so they can stop giving wrong info unknowingly.

the school to a college in NB since the university degree wasn’t appropriate for her so she got a new study permit for the college in New Brunswick for autumn 2021 (study permit valid from July 2021 until 2023).

We got to know each other in March 2020 when she was in her first semester at University, and we have decided to live together and stay with me in Ottawa.

There's nothing else to say to you. We have told you what the new rules are and if you search in this forum, I have taken pains to document my entire encounter regarding my DLI change and new SP application, including screenshots of my correspondences with IRCC. I know a couple other posters have done the same recently.

It's up to you to decide which direction you want to take. Be aware that you are putting your fiance's future PGWP at risk if you do not follow the new guidelines. No lawyer would be held responsible when the dire consequence hits.
