Changing name Help

my friend is applying for Permanent residence Outland and he has too change his date of birth in his passport from 1985 to 1987 did this can cause the problem for PR or he just need to inform the embassy that he has some change?

If the application is already in process, he shouldn't alter the date of birth in the passport.
