I suppose you are from India and you don't have a surname on your indian passport and now on your canadian citizenship ceritificate, you just have a last name, correct?

I am from BC

My immigration documents have my name as D..... singh
But they put full name in last name column and left first name column blank.
It's been like that since I landed here I don't mind like this but.

According to them I don't have my first name hahah
They should use Singh as my last name but anyways
I hope I should add my last name after citizenship

Not an expert but I think you may have to file change/add a name in court IF you do not fall under the following defined criteria. Good luck!

Here we go......

You need to visit vital statistics agency and get your name changed. You need to get fingerprints too and then once you receive name change certificate, then get your name changed on drivers license, sin card, care card, credit cards etc etc.
Once you have two pieces of ID with new name then apply to change the name on citizenship certificate. Read cic website for how to apply for citizenship certificate
The whole process will take months.
15 days to 2 months for name change certificate
15 days to 2 months for drivers license and care card
3-6 months for citizenship certificate


Once you get citizenship certificate with new name, you can apply for passport with new name.
