Hi all !

If there is someone know about changing family name in processing time, could you please give me an advice?

I applied for PR with my maiden name on May 2019. I changed my maiden name to my husband ‘s family name recently. Can I change it in processing time? Or I should wait until I get PR card next May then I change? If I can change it now, is it via IRCC website? Or sending documents by mail? I have tried to look for where was it in their web site but it was only changing address

I took my husband’s name as well, but I have not changed my passport. All my other identification is my married name. I didn’t bother to update them because they go off your passport anyways . I want no further delays so I didn’t notify them at all

You have to change your name in your passport. You can then just send a Webform with a copy of the new passport to update your name. It doesn't delay anything.

Actually you don’t , I have 2 years left on it and I was told there by the office staff that I didn’t have to , many people don’t

I did the same thing as well and received the same answer when I asked. I also called CIC and they said it was not necessary to change on their end as well.

Canada doesn't require women to change their name. I meant that in order to change her name in the app, she has to change her passport first.

I had a hard enough time changing my regular ID as my husband has 2 last names , try and explain Latin culture lol to ensure they do it correct so I’m not his sister by name hahaha . The passport can wait , I was over it haha

Ya same as you, my passport is good for 7 more years and was told it can remain that way until it expires as they require a full fee for a brand new passport when a name change occurs

I travel with my maiden name
The rest is my married name

Yeah, it can certainly be a hassle.
