Pre-Assessed..
Hi everyone..I was just wondering if anyone knows how to go about legally changing your last name while in Canada under the "in-Canada Spousal" Application..can you legally do it through everything up here and in your home country without being there? I'm a US citizen and wondering how it works because I would certainly like to take my married name..

if your application for inland sponsorship is still in process, I would recommend waiting to change to your married name until after you're approved, just to avoid any kind of confusion for CIC - probably best to keep the name you applied under until after you receive your PR.

if you applied under your married name, and now want to update your documents to reflect that, then that's another story. I would check with the nearest US consulate, or the state department for instructions on how to proceed with the various name-change applications you will have to file.

I'm no expert...but I have decided against changing my last name until all this PR process has been completed. All my identification and so on is in my maiden name, and additional documents I will need will have to be requested in my maiden name, as that was the name I was using then.
