Changing Employer

Hi,

I am a IT professional working in canada . I am not sure whether my WP is open or closed as nothinng is mentioned on the WP paper. The visa category is W-1 and case type is 20 on work permit.

My questions are:

1. If I am on Intra company tranfer , can I change employer?

2. Can another employer file open work permit for me?

3. Can I mysellf apply for open work permit?

1. You need a new work permit before you can change employers.

2. You must apply for the new CLOSED work permit (not your employer). Before you can apply for the new work permit your employer will need to obtain an approved LMIA. As part of this process, your employer will have to advertise the job for at least a month to prove no Canadian could be found for the role. Your employer will also have to pay a $1K processing fee. The processing times for LMIAs are between 6-20 weeks.

3. No - you don't qualify for an open work permit (unless there is some additional information about yourself you haven't provided).
