Change of Program Status once you are in canada. PMM??

I want to change my program status from full-time to part-time. I want to know whether it will affect my visa or not?

It is better you leave your status that way beause they may think otherwise thereby denying you visa.

Thanks betty. I already have my visa and am currently in canada. Is it okay if I switch to part time as I can take the same no. of courses but its alot cheaper..

I don't know what the result of that will be for you during the time when you are extending your stay but you definitely are revoked from applying for an off-campus work permit if you haven't been full-time for at least six months of the last year of your proposed studies.

Actually people who came here on study permits, specifically from Pakistan, have mentioned how they had to be full-time to be eligible for study extensions. I can ask again but I would wait for PMM or other members to respond to be sure.

On the cic website they just ask for your transcript and if I show three courses per term i dont think there should be an issue.. anyways.. i am waiting for PMM to reply too!!

How is it that part time and full time are the same? I don't get it

If you want to change your program from a Bachelor's to a Diploma that makes sense, but explain what you mean by going part time and still studying as much as full time. I thought the course loads were different, hence the names.

You make no sense. Firstly, in most Universities, taking a minimum of 3 courses per semester classifies you as a FULL TIME student. Secondly, if let's say you were to do 2 courses per semester for three consecutive semesters then how would that make it cheaper if you still had to do a cumulative of 6 subjects regardless.

Secondly, an extension of a study permit is likely to be denied if they see that you are studying only parttime for a few semesters. This is because you're intention for coming into Canada is solely to study as a fulltime student. Third point is that once you graduate, obtain one year of work experience and then apply for the Experience Class, you will likely be denied unless you meet the requirement of having studied as a fulltime student for atleast 4 semesters/2 years.

You are treading a dangerous path and seem to be quite confused to me by repeatedly stating that you will save money. If you have to take 6 courses, they will cost you the same amount whether you take them all in one go or spread them out over a few semesters.

Well i dont think you get me right. When I said I can take the same no. of courses being part time I meant I can take 3 courses and that way I can complete it in a year n a half. Now about the saving, I can in no possible way take 5 courses n complete it in a year, so I'll anyways will complete it in next fall. If i stay full time i'll have to pay an additional fee of 12k for the next fall while if I switch to part time I would not have to pay that.. I hope I make sense now//

I would like to clarify furthr:

At Uoft:

Part-time course load: 1 to 3 courses
Full-time course load: 3 to 5 courses

so I can take 3 courses as a part time student..
