Change of Marital Status during Canada PR processing

Hi Team,

I am going to apply for Canada PR. My relationship status is single now. My marriage date is fixed in February, 2016. I am highly concerned on how the change in my marital status would affect my Canada PR.

Kindly advise. Thanks in advance.

Depends. You will have to inform CIC about the change in your marital status as and when it happens.

If you have a post ITA application in process by that time, your spouse will then be added to your application but your points won't be recalculated.

If you haven't either received an ITA or not submitted your post ITA application by that time, your spouse will then be added to your application but your points will be recalculated.
 
I found this on CIC's website:
We will refuse your application if the information in your profile is different from what you submitted in your application.

Wouldnt this mean that if you are unable to modify your profile (for instance after receiving nomination from a province or after receiving ITA), then if you get married and later submit an application including spouse, then CIC will refuse based on the fact that your profile indicates single applicant? therefore not matching submitted application?

This is true in a limited sense.

If there is a discrepancy which would've made you ineligible to receive the ITA in the first place (by not having had enough points, for instance) then your application will be refused. For example, if you had claimed to have a higher band score on your language test than the actual score and then changed it to the actual score in your post ITA application, your application will be refused and you will probably be charged with misrepresentation as well.

But this doesn't apply when there are changes to personal situations. People can (and do) get married and/or have babies at any time during the process. CIC would need to be informed of such changes as and when they happen. Depending on when this change happens, your application will be treated differently as I explained in my earlier post.

Grey area. Depends on each province. Generally speaking, it's a good idea to inform the province proactively about any changes and let them process the information and decide on the course of action. I would imagine what holds good for CIC would hold good for all provinces as well.
