Hi Guys

Hope you all are doing good! I need some expert advise on couple of questions. I will like 2 or 3 peeps point of view, so please answer whatever u think.

Questions:

1. My understanding is that, Only a reference letter is not enough to prove employment. It is Optional but very important, that we upload supporting document like offer letter, salary slips, relieving letter, income tax. Am I right?
2. I have worked with a company. Where I joined as Web Developer, tech lead development, project lead. My offer letter says Web Developer, I have couple of salary slips to proof rest of the 2 designation. Now my experience letter says, "Software Developer" (god knows why, but I am guilty of not paying much attention). I also choose similar NOC in my express entry, in my express entry application in Employment Title I wrote "Software Developer" as well. These are very close designation to each other. Now that I have invite and I was busy prepping for document to upload I saw this. I was thinking, I have 2 options.
  • a. Upload one document with Software Developer designation, my experience that also mention all required details like salary, roles responsibility.
  • b. E-mail my company, to change the reference letter. And mention in letter "During his tenure he worked on different designation from Web Developer, Tech Lead, Project Lead, Software Developer". We can't mention dates, coz neither me or my company remember dates.
  • c. this is not even a option. But just checking, I can't change my designation title in Permanent Residency application. That will be a mismatch between express entry profile and Permanent residency application. Right?
What you guys suggest?
3. My another experience letter. I worked for a company where the company name in the start was UP2 but then It changed to IB Tech. Obviously, my offer letter and joining letter is on UP2 letter head, where as my Exp is on IB Tech letter head. I was thinking to request a letter from company to say that company name was changed. That should be enough?

Just mentioning, all these confusions are coming because I never thought I need to submit more that a reference letter to prove my employment. So, I only looked at reference letters. Now, when I am trying to group all there are above 2 mismatches.

An exhaustive reference letter (covering all the mandatory details of your roles and responsibilities, hours worked per week, salary etc.) is enough. Submitting salary slips and relieving letter doesn't harm though. Offer letter and Income tax returns are absolutely not required.

2. I have worked with a company. Where I joined as Web Developer, tech lead development, project lead. My offer letter says Web Developer, I have couple of salary slips to proof rest of the 2 designation. This is the best option
  • c. this is not even a option. But just checking, I can't change my designation title in Permanent Residency application. That will be a mismatch between express entry profile and Permanent residency application. Right?
Designation really does not matter. What matters is, if the roles and responsibilities mentioned in your employment reference letter match with the ones defined in the respective NOC code.

What you guys suggest?

This will be more than enough. While submitting your PR application you can also add a cover letter by yourself and mention the change of the company name.

Just mentioning, all these confusions are coming because I never thought I need to submit more that a reference letter to prove my employment. So, I only looked at reference letters. Now, when I am trying to group all there are above 2 mismatches.

Re: Employment Reference/Experience letter - expert advise

Thanks Manju.

I have a fear that. If now I upload the current detailed document with Title (Software Developer), Designation, Roles, Responsibility (matching required format from CIC) and then visa officer request for other documents in future, and all other documents have different designation I am in trouble.

On:
•c. this is not even a option. But just checking, I can't change my designation title in Permanent Residency application. That will be a mismatch between express entry profile and Permanent residency application. Right?

If I change my Title from Software Developer to Web Developer (that's mentioned in Salary Slips). I will have to change my NOC. I was thinking If I ask my company to give me a new document (with same details), just one change that "During his tenure he worked on different designations, varying from Web Developer, Software Developer, Team Lead, Project Leader". That should be enough. Then I won't change anything in my Express entry. Will Submit only this reference letter, if they ask for supporting doc I can give offer letter, and salary slips (with diff designation).
Is there any loop hole in this?

Re: Employment Reference/Experience letter - need advise

Anyone else,

Re: Employment Reference/Experience letter - need advise

I'm in a similar situation with one of my employers where they don't mention number of hours/week & history of designations & salaries on the skill certificate. They say it is the standard format they'll follow.

Hence, to back up my claims, I took the following from them (the rest of the documents Sr No 2 onwards I'm submitting to back up my claim) -

  • Their skill certificate which has the skills of the NOC copy-pasted on it. It also has the dates of working & the designation while resigning
  • Their joining letter
  • Last 5 months' payslips
  • Affidavits from two colleagues notarised about the work in the format in which CIC wants, but the company won't issue
  • Annual increment & appraisal letters which mention designation & salary changes
  • Relieving letter & service certificate

I'm counting on the fact that the employer happened to be one of the top software outsourcing companies in India and hence there should be even less scope for them to doubt my submissions.

I suggest you follow the same process. Better to give them more documentation so that there's no scope for doubt, than to give them too little and then regret later.

Re: Employment Reference/Experience letter - need advise

Here's what I think I should do.

Leave my express entry profile designation as "Software Developer" and Noc 2174.

Change my reference document to mention that "During his tenure Gaurav worked as Web Developer, Software Developer, Team Lead, Project Lead". No Dates.
Will submit offer letter that says, Web Developer
Salary slip only, as Project Lead.

I will make responsibilities mentioned in Reference document as matching to NOC 2174. That should be enough, I guess.

"During his tenure he worked on different designations, varying from Web Developer, Software Developer, Team Lead, Project Leader".
Looks to be perfect with no question of any doubt/loophole. Still, I suggest take inputs from senior members in the forum.

Re: Employment Reference/Experience letter - need advise

Thanks Madhu. I am planning to decline my invite. Web Developer is different NOC from Software Developer, so I am going to decline this invite. Fix my Express Entry and wait for next invite.

You can do that pretty confidently as you have a very safe score to get you the ITA in the very next draw.

All the best :)

You need to get the time periods mentioned in the reference letter for each designation.
E.g. Software developer from Jan 20XX to August 20XX and likewise.
If the job duties are different for each designation, then include them separately in the same reference letter. This reference letter can be 2 or 3 pages long.

Thanks SushSmart15. Coincidentally, that's exact format I have requested from my company, hopefully I will get now. T

he dilemma now I am in is
- whether should I decline my ITA, change the designation in EE and wait for another ITA
- or Just change the title of that one work history item, in my Permanent Residency application. I don't even have to change NOC, just changing title will work.

this is some suggestions from other peeps on my question. Please advise on this as well.

Thanks Madhu. Some of our friends in this forum believe that I don't have to decline to change title. Will love to hear your thoughts as well. Here is the discussion

I am in weird situation here, I am using a consultant to file for EE, some how some dates got wrongly put for work experience. May be confusion got in because different date format used in USA and India. Now I have got ITA, I am not sure how to proceed in this situation. Although the changes does not make any difference to the points. And I was reading on the forum that reaching out to CIC take months to get some response from them.

One example of mistake:
Job A: January/2015 - December/2015
Job B: August/2015 to present

I do not want to decline and apply again as my IELTS is expiring soon
