hi ,
I need some advise.
I transferred from Ireland to Canada( Ontario) with my existing company of 16 years
I was here 10-11 months and was let go due to restructuring around the globe.
A few month later I was re-hired by the same company, but at an entry level position.
with a view to see if a position ( Project Manager) opened up.
today I was informed that my existing visa was not valid and I could no longer stay employed.
with my wife , kids and Dog all settled in now, I'm looking to see what my options are?
My Wife , a HR Manager, is going through a PR application with her current employer. and the application in going in in the next few weeks.

what are my options ? apply to have the visa changed to open work visa?
TIA

Darren

You need to apply for a new closed work permit. To qualify for a closed work permit you need a full time job offer from an employer and that employer also needs to obtain an approved LMIA. The LMIA process is quite long and expensive for the employer (count on 4+ months). As a first step, it requires the employer to advertise your job for at least a month to prove no Canadian could be found for the role. Once the advertising is completed, the employer will need to submit the LMIA application along with a $1000 fee. Processing typically takes several months with no guarantee of approval.

Your original work permit was only valid for the job you were brought over originally. If you used your original work permit to work for the entry level position, this work was working without authorization (i.e. illegal work).
