Change in Status before travelling to Canada

Hello,

This may sound similar to many of you but I haven't had a clear idea for a solution in existing threads.

I received my COPR and PR visa in Novemeber 2017, but I have to travel to Canada before mid September, 2018. I am getting married in Feb 2018 and planning to travel to Canada only after marriage. I was wondering, if getting married before landing can cause any issues in my travel

Also if I inform CIC after get married and before landing, approximately how long will it take for both our (Mine and my wife's) Visa ?

Further what is the procedure to inform CIC as regards the change in status. ?

What ever you do, do NOT land with your COPR as single if you are married! If you do marry before you land, you need to contact IRCC and return the COPR and immigration visa. You will need to add your wife to the application and she will need to go through the background checks and medical. Anticipate a 6 month delay as a minimum.
Don’t be under the misconception that just sending an e mail or letting CBSA know when you land is sufficient to change your status. There are many posts here about spouses now being ineligible for spousal sponsorship due to not PROPERLY informing IRCC and having their spouse added to the application. They will reject the application and no longer consider her/him your spouse and you will never be able to sponsor them under family class.

You can avoid all of this by simply landing first and getting married after you receive your PR status.
