Hi,
We are planning on getting married next month,

We want to do something very small and intimate, we have chosen a ocean front hotel.

We would like to do both the ceremony and the reception at the same place, in the same setting? is that allright ?
or it's better to go to the court house with a few family members and then have the reception at the hotel with a few more people?

thanks!

I don't think that would matter. As long as you document the ceremony and the reception with photos and explain on form IMM5490 in part 14 and 15 that you had the wedding and ceremony at the same place and explain why (financial reasons, easier to organize) etc., there should be no problem.

if you're asking because you're concerned about what CIC would think, please stop. CIC isn't judging your wedding planning skills. couples around here have had all kinds of weddings - big, small, elopement, courthouse, big budget, no budget at all. you should be having the wedding your partner and you want to have and can make happen.

when it comes to filling out the application, you provide some proof of the event and maybe an explanation as to why you wanted the kind of wedding you had. but that will be just a small part of the relationship proof you provide. and whether guests had to travel to the open bar or not isn't going to make or break getting approved.

:)

thanks your right :)

I agree. We had a small wedding, only 15 people attended. It was at the home of a friend's and the reception was there as well. We just sent in photos showing parts of the wedding as well as the reception. In our case since there were only about 15 people I asked for a photo of all of us to be taken and I included that photo in with our proof. Good Luck and God Bless.

CIC does look at local cultural norms when evaluating a relationship. If there is a big deviation, then it does arose some suspicion. For example, Indian weddings tend to be large events with many people. So a couple of East Indian descent getting married in India with a very small wedding will arouse suspicion while a couple getting married in the US will not so much.

Yes all kinds..we had a small civil wedding, we were just 5 people in total but we had quiet a few pictures taken during the signing of our marriage agreement documents no physical ceremony as it was a Thai civil marriage. More pictures were taken after including everyone, The Registrar is with us too in some of them.

Our reception meal was in a different place with about 35 people and we had taken pictures with everyone including a couple of group photos. We submitted pictures that showed details of the events of that day/evening.
