CELPIP-General Test is now designated by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) as proof of English language proficiency for those applying to immigrate to Canada under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

The new designation information will be made available on the CIC website during the first week of January 2013. However, for those applying under CEC, CIC will accept CELPIP-General Test results that were written on or after November 23, 2012.

The CELPIP-General Test is now designated under the following classes of immigration to Canada:

Federal Skilled Workers and Professionals Class
Canadian Experience Class
under various Provincial Nominee Programs

The CELPIP-General Test is a complete English language testing program that assesses general levels of functional competency. The test is completely computer-delivered and consists of following components:

Listening
Speaking
General Reading and Writing

I dunno if I should be excited by this notice. Is CELPIP easier than IELTS?

I like the idea of do the exam in a computer, 'cus no one these days write essays by hand, it's just feel weird.

Cheers! and thanks for sharing!!

Andy2109 - thanks for the information.

Will CIC only accept CELPIP-general test as proof of english language efficiency from JAN 2013 or they continue accepting IELTS proof as well for CEC applications from JAN 2013? please confirm.

It has been either IELTs or CELPIP for years, the original post was really old news.

CELPIP is a new development to be implemented in January 2013.. u must have been mistaking CELPIP with TEF which is also acceptable test as IELTS.

CELPIP has been accepted by Immigration for years (I know the difference between TEF and CELPIP) it is a program developed out at UBC. It was used much, since the only test sites are in Canada, so it was really useless for Immigration unless you were in Canada.

follow the documents checklist: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5610E.PDF. there is no mention of CELPIP. u also follow the link provided by OP. u will learn more

CELPIP has been accepted for years in just about every program except CEC, for some inexplicable reason.

Please note that Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP has not yet been designated as a language-testing agency for the selection of applicants under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP test results will not be accepted for CEC until further notice.

So this is indeed good news. The people with Canadian experience finally get to take the Canadian exam.
