I heard, that within one month after rejection you can make an appeal.

I think you should email to Ottawa ( OttPilot-Immigration@cic.gc.ca ) and say that (1) it was a mistake concerning your IELTS, (2) provide a new reference from your employer saying that you were giving lectures and checking student assignments as well.

May be it will really help.

At the same time, subscribe for the next IETLS asap, if they will ask you updated IELTS results.

When you will have email to Ottawa, give it to read to some other people or post it here (before sending).

Can you please show your job reference letter as well? May be it was too short?
[I'm a postdoc as well]

I am doing postdoc last for one and half year.
I wish to apply for PR, I got 7 bands in IELTS.
My skill falls under 4011 and 2112.
I am confused in which category I should apply, 4011 or 2112.
In case of 4011, I may not cover all main duties mentioned on web for NOC 4011.
While for NOC 2112, I cover most of the main duties.
I came on postdoctoral work permit (4011), is it possible for me to apply under 2112 (Chemist) category?
Does any one has any idea?

2112. I read on here that some physics post-docs went for 2111 and got PR.

The very important thing is your job reference letter
It should be correspond to the NOC description of your occupation (at the same time, you shouldn't just copy past words from NOC description)
You can find NOC description online

My guess, yes, you can apply as a Chemist
You can ask your boss to write in the reference letter, that postdoc was your official title, while your real duties were research in Chemistry

But I am not 100% sure, since your work permit says postdoc (if I understand you correctly)

Quoting jes_ON again. It's unambiguous that you should use 2112.

jes_ON said:
Yes, if that is what you do, then you should apply under NOC 2112.

In the Foreign Worker's manual.

"Given the absence of an occupational code in the NOC for post-doctoral fellows, please use the
applicant's specialty. For example, an applicant in Earth Sciences could be coded 2113 as a
geologist or 2115.2 as a soil scientist."

If you are on a closed work permit and it says your NOC 4011, then i think your only option is 4011.

If you use NOC 4011,try to include duties in your reference letter, such as conducting research, writing research paper, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students' research projects, etc. Even if you didn't do any teaching in class, you should include some student mentoring duties besides the research duties, such as lecturing instrumental operation procedure to new students, mentoring research projects, etc.

However, in case of open work permit (post grad work permit) you can chose anyone which matches most of your duties.

Thanks for the your advice.
Yes I have closed work permit, thats why I am confused to apply under 2112 category.
I trained graduate students and also helped them in writing their thesis.
According to all discussion above,
One thing is clear that I have only one option of 4011, am I understand correctly?
And I need to have strong reference letter including few duties.
Does any one has idea ? how many duties should match with main duties?
By looking at this it seems that its difficult to apply as postdoctoral fellow, since they merged with 4011 without mentioning the duties for postdoc.
Please comment on chances of getting PR on 4011 category.
Thanks

I am also a postdoc, but occupation showing on work permit (issued this year) is post-secondary teaching and research assistant, NOC 4012. I think some of the CIC officers still use NOC 2006 rather than NOC 2011 to issue work permit.

As postdoc doesn't need to get LMO, the NOC code is assigned randomly, either 4011 (according to NOC 2011)/4012 (according to NOC 2006) or 2***(your specialty). You can apply under either of the category but have to make sure your job duties match most of those list on hrsdc website.

You should apply as a Chemist, and not as a post doc. Good luck!

Hi,
Sorry to hear about your refusal.
I am a postdoc in Biochemistry and I applied for PR under Noc 4011. I went through the all process; and after Medical, my status on E-case shows Decision Made.
I don't teach and only do research. The duties on my reference letter are:
- Design, implementation and analysis of research experiments using molecular and structural biology techniques on her designated research projects.
- Write manuscripts for publications in scientific journals or books.
- Present her work with poster and oral communications at national/international meetings and workshop.
I didn't include my publications but attached a very detailed resume.
Best

Thanks for the comments,
Another thing, I would like to mention here that if I am applying as Chemist, do I need to provide T4? For your information we postdocs are given T4A (bursary) not T4.
What do you think guys ? they can ask me to provide T4 instead of T4A, if it is like that then they will get a point to reject my application.

When did you apply for PR?
Did you get PR or still waiting ?
Because my senior`s application was rejected based on mismatching of duties.
I wish it doesnt happen with you.
I have similar duties as you mentioned here.
is it sufficient for application?

hi Guys, I come to know the 4012 NOC code is also there for the job we postdocs are doing which is best fit to your job duties.
I asked for complication arise, if I apply under such category as we dont have T4, I got such answer,
The NOC code is mainly assigned based on the duties performed and education requirements rather than the job title itself. The National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes are determined by the Skill Type and Skill Level. The Skill Type represents the type of work performed as well as the general industry of employment, in order to easily indicate the segment of the world of work. The Skill Level represents the education required to perform the work. However, the NOC does recognize the fact that most jobs require multitasking or performing more than one duty. As a result there is a 51% rule that can be used as a guideline.
Hope this can be useful for others in deciding the NOC code.
If you have any other information then please share with forum
Good luck guys.
