Hi there,

I recently got an ITA under CEC and I have some questions about work my history, both Canadian and foreign that I hope somebody can answer.
FYI I was in Canada from 2013-2015 on an IEC visa which is how I gained my Canadian work experience. For work my there I have 16 months of work as a web developer (2175) for two different companies.

For one of my jobs in Canada I was a contractor but as an employee of one company (got a bi-weekly wage) working for one of their clients.
I know there is a rule in CEC that you are not eligible if contracting but I wasn't self employed so I should be OK, shouldn't I?

Second question I have relates to my foreign work experience which I'm currently still accruing because I left Canada last June. On my EE profile I have my current job, which I will be in for a year in July and also 9 months of work experience I did while I was in college before I went to Canada. That brings me to 19 months of foreign work experience. All which could be considered as work as a web developer.

Now the question I have is because there was a break in between my two batches of foreign work experience and I don't think it's considered continuous, should I wait until July to apply so I will definitely have the continuous year from my current job? I need a year for my points so I can't leave it out.
Also the I the work I did while in college (albeit full-time and paid) would they discount that work because they might think I wasn't fully qualified because I hadn't graduated?

I have until the 20th of June to submit my application on my current invite so do you think I could I submit my application without my work while in college and just use my current job because I would only be a couple of weeks away from having a years experience or should I hold out and hope for another invite and apply in July?

Grateful for any input as I don't know what to do and don't want to get refused/delayed on a small technicality.

Thanks

Hi,

We share the same NOC code ;)

1/ As long as you have worked full time meaning 30 hours a week and you can prove it with your paycheques, T4, etc. be it bi-weekly or monthly you should be fine and it will count towards your experience.

2/ Yes your work experience should be continuous as they have outlined. So you better apply after you gain your one full year experience. About your full-time job while studying, you can most definitely mention it but please do understand that it's not considered professional. I have also worked full-time and studied full-time at the same time but it is not considered as an adequate approach.

As I know for a fact that CEC applications are based on your past experience not current, you are better off by putting your application on hold till you meet all the requirements. Otherwise you are wasting your invitation.

I am speaking with outdated experience (before EE kicked in). So please make sure to wait for more replies on your questions from other seniors. Do not take action regarding to my reply.

Best of luck,

Thanks so much for your reply! :)

I probably should have clarified that my work during college was a compulsory part my degree where we had to do at least a 6 month work placement for a semester in third year, so I wasn't actually studying while working for that time.

Thanks, I'm not going to jump to any hasty decisions because I still have 50 odd days to apply or decline but just wanted to get second opinion.
